Classic Hoi An

Route: Hoi An

Hoi An is a must-see destination for any Vietnam holiday. It is well known for its excellent tailors, its art galleries, and its narrow streets crammed with tiny wooden cafes serving steaming coffee. Centuries ago Chinese traders came to offer their goods here and the charm of the town is still completely undeniable. The only danger is that you may not want to leave!

There's plenty to do during our Hoi An trip. You can take a bike ride past the rice paddies to a quiet palm-fringed beach nearby, arrange a trip to the historic temple complex of My Son, or lazily browse the streets looking for a friendly tailor to sew your made-to-measure outfit. We can also offer a Vietnamese cookery lesson with fresh local ingredients during your Hoi An trip. You'll stay in a charming hotel in a central location with a lovely swimming pool. Breakfast is included.

Day 1: Arrival in Hoi An

Today you'll begin your Hoi An trip, a real highlight of your Vietnam holiday. It is popular with backpackers, attracted by the wide range of quirky restaurants and cafes, the inexpensive tailors, and the lovely nearby beach.

The intriguing ancient monuments in Hoi An are not so well known, but well worth a visit. In the old town, you can buy a ticket that gives you access to the famous Japanese Bridge, the old trading houses and small museums.

There is plenty to do during our Hoi An trip. You can get measured up for a suit, or rent yourself a pushbike and pedal around town, or past the paddy fields down to the sandy beach. Choose a spot under a thatched parasol with a book and some freshly sliced pineapple. At sunset, the local people flock to the beach to cool off and play some football after a long day at work.

Day 2: Free time

On day two of your Hoi An trip, there's nothing on the agenda, so you're free to wander lazily through the tiny streets of Hoi An. If you're feeling adventurous you can arrange a trip to the historical site of My Son. Despite American bombardment, the temple complex at My Son has been well preserved. The area was the most important religious and intellectual centre in Vietnam until the 13th century and the temples are fascinating buildings to explore. Nowadays, My Son is a UNESCO World Heritage site, lying about 40km southwest of Hoi An in a wild, green valley. If you'd like us to add this to your Hoi An trip in advance, please just let us know and our friendly Vietnam travel specialists will amend the cost accordingly.

Hoi An is jam-packed with tailors and you can have a good made-to-measure suit made for under £20. However this is also the best place to purchase dresses, trousers, shirts etc. The perfect opportunity to update your wardrobe!

Day 3: Optional cooking lesson or free time

This is essentially a free day, so you can stay in the old town of Hoi An or head for the beach for some sun-kissed relaxation. However, we can also offer you the opportunity to whip up some authentic Vietnamese dishes in the kitchen during your Hoi An trip. If you choose this option you'll be collected from your hotel and taken to the colourful Hoi An cookery school for your lesson. During your class you’ll hear all about typical Vietnamese dishes and then have a go at preparing your own lunch.

The afternoon is yours to spend as you please. You'll spend all three nights of you Hoi An trip in a comfortable, centrally located hotel in the historic centre of town. The hotel also has a very pleasant swimming pool and breakfast is included.

Day 4: End of Hoi An trip

On the final day of your Hoi An trip, you're free to do exactly as you please before moving on to your next destination. Spend a few lazy hours on the wide sandy beach or get that final fitting for your new outfit. There's certainly no shortage of possibilities in this wonderful little town.

After your Hoi An trip, we can recommend a relaxing break on a tropical island with our Vietnam beach trip. Alternatively, if you're craving some southern culture, you can fly from Danang to Ho Chi Minh City to begin our Mekong Delta tour
