Escape to the beach

Nha Trang trip

When thinking of Vietnam, white sandy beaches probably aren't the first thing that comes to mind. Surprisingly enough however, there are in fact several different coastal areas that you can retreat to for a relaxing beach break. During this Nha Trang trip you'll spend two nights at a seaside resort with its own tropical private beach backdrop. After finding a comfortable beach bed to lounge on, simply enjoy the view of the endless turquoise sea. Spend the day daydreaming with your feet in the sand or enjoying the clear warm water in front of you.

Want to see more than just the beach? The town of Nha Trang is just a short drive away. This popular seaside town offers visitors a wide variety of things to see and do. Go sailing and explore the deep blue sea whilst snorkelling or diving and don't forget to have a look around the local fishing harbour.

Day 1: Lazy day on the beach

Today you'll travel to an idyllically situated resort, just an hours drive from Nha Trang. Your actual arrival time depends on whether you fly in or drive into town. If this Nha Trang trip is a follow-on to our Elephants and Waterfalls module, you'll have to drive for about 4 hours to reach the coast from the countryside. You'll arrive just in time to have lunch at the resort's restaurant.

Lay your towel down on one of the sun beds by the pool or the adjoining private beach as you sip on a cool fruit cocktail or beer. There's nothing planned for the rest of the afternoon, so you'll have plenty of time to read that book you brought along. Of course you can also just spend a lazy afternoon looking back on the time you've spent in Vietnam so far. If you would like to spend the day after your arrival in Nha Trang, just let the reception desk staff know the night before and they'll arrange a transfer for you.

Day 2: A day in Nha Trang

After enjoying a nice breakfast spread, you can either spend a relaxing day at the beach or you can head into Nha Trang town. Nha Trang is a popular beach destination among Vietnamese tourists. There are plenty of outdoor activities to participate in whilst in town: snorkelling, diving (January to October), biking and sailing for instance. There are several islands right off the coast and the boulevard is lined with an assortment of restaurants and bars.

Despite its more touristy character, this place really is charming and contains a few hidden gems. Have a look around the harbour when the fishermen bring in their catch of the day or stroll down to the Cham towers. These towers are made of red clay stones and and are reminiscent of the temples at Angkor Wat. All around the temples you’ll see Vietnamese men and women burning incense to honour the gods.

Day 3: What's next..

Eventually the time will come to move on. If you want to spend more time on the coast, you can extend your stay by one or more nights. If you would like to travel south, you can fly down to the Ho Chi Minh City, Southern Vietnam's most enigmatic city. Have a look at our Southern Vietnam trips summary page for more options.

If you started out in Ho Chi Minh City you can add a few Central Vietnam modules to your itinerary after this Nha Trang trip. Travel to the tailor-town of Hoi An and on to Hué before ending up in Hanoi for instance. Check out our Northern Vietnam trips in the Hanoi area.
